What to Expect

Preparing for Your Appointment

For initial in-person visits, I will usually weigh your baby and observe a feed if you are comfortable with that. I can examine you and your baby, including your baby's mouth, when appropriate. We will discuss your full medical and lactation history as well as your questions. I can also help you with pumping if there's time. I do much of the same with a virtual visit, with your consent, though I won't weigh your baby. Every aspect of the visit is optional and I will ask for consent before touching either of you. For prenatal visits, we focus on your medical history and creating a plan to set yourself up for a positive postpartum and feeding experience. Prenatals are especially helpful for anyone with risk factors for low supply or feeding difficulties. In such cases, planning ahead can have a profound effect on the first weeks or months after your baby is born. Insurance typically covers prenatals!

You’ve got a lot on your hands and are probably sleep-deprived. After the visit, I'm available to text or email about questions about the care plan, and most insurances cover a follow-up call with me the next day. I will also make myself available for early follow up appointments (sometimes virtual depending on my schedule but often in person). Most insurances cover unlimited visits.
